Tiger Woods, a member of the Golf Hall of Fame, is listed as active on the current Masters Tournament field list, according to the PGA Tour. This listing suggests Tiger may compete in the Augusta National, which begins next month on April 11 with pre-tournament dates from April 8-10.
The 48-year-old golfer injured himself last year during the third round of the 2023 Masters, claiming to have plantar fasciitis. He had surgery on his ankle shortly after withdrawing from the event. He was able to recover from the surgery and compete in the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship last October. He made his first tour start since the operation last month, competing in The Genesis Invitational. He began with a 1-over-72, but withdrew from the tournament on the seventh hole of the second round. According to Bleacher Report, the 2023 Masters was his only PGA competition last year, after appearing in the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship the year before in 2022.
Tiger Woods and other PGA Tour players will become equity holders in PGA Tour Enterprises, a newly founded for-profit corporation, following a $3 billion investment by the Strategic Sports Group, according to MSN. The agreement marks a watershed event in sports history, since the players would own a portion of the PGA Tour, a concept unique in professional sports.
Tiger has competed in 25 Masters, winning five of them (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019), and is one win shy from matching Jack Nicklaus’ record of six green jackets. He is also tied with Fred Couples and Gary Player for making the cut in 23 straight Augusta National starts.
Tiger Woods is expected to play at the Augusta National, but he has not confirmed this.
