Breaking News:Leeds United’s promotion rivals suffer severe injury setback ahead of Championship six-pointer

Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town’s manager, has not confirmed whether Wes Burns would be able to participate in the Championship run-in. The winger is still dealing with a hamstring injury sustained in the win against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, and he was forced to withdraw from Rob Page’s Wales squad as a result.

The Tractor Boys have been closely monitoring Burns, and after sending him to a doctor, they are certain that he will not need to have surgery. However, with only eight games remaining in the regular Championship season, he may be racing against time to prove his fitness.

Burns has been ruled out of Good Friday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers, and he is unlikely to play in the automatic promotion six-pointer against Southampton on Easter Monday either. He’ll be missed in both games, considering his significance to McKenna’s team, which is presently only one point behind Leeds United in the table, and the head coach believes his absence might be extended.

“He has seen the specialist now,” McKenna stated in the lead-up to tonight’s match at Ewood Park. “As we expected, his hamstring injury is not short-term, but there is no need for surgery, and he is doing well.

“We’ll get it rescanned in a week or so, and we’ll know much more than just how long the healing will take. It is possible that he may play again this season, but it is far from certain. It’s a case of “wait and see.”

Burns has made 32 league appearances for Ipswich this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists to help the Suffolk club climb to third in the Championship table. Ipswich will also assess the fitness of Cameron Burgess, Kieffer Moore, and Jeremy Sarmiento before their journey to Lancashire.
