For the first time after the horrific mass shooting in Florida on April 27, star wide receiver Tank Dell of the Houston Texans spoke out on May 3.
Dell claimed he’s “very lucky” to be alive and to have spared his leg from any structural damage, according to a source at Houston’s KPRC.
Dell, an innocent bystander, was caught in the crossfire between two shooters during a private gathering at Cabana Live, a pub in Sanford, Florida. Dell was one of the ten individuals who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. KPRC reports that Dell was shot in the flesh, and the wound “went through one side of his leg and exited the other side.” A 16-year-old suspect was taken into jail after being arrested.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released a horrifying video of the gunfight, which depicts a crowd of people fleeing for their life.
QB for the Texans Before the shooting, C.J. Stroud and HC DeMeco Ryans raved about Tank Dell.
The explosive receiver for the Houston Texans had fully recovered from a broken fibula, which had abruptly terminated an amazing rookie season that set numerous records, prior to the shooting incident.
Before fracturing his left fibula on Sunday, December 3, Dell had 709 yards receiving and had established a franchise rookie record with seven touchdown receptions. Dell was hurt as he was rolled up on during a block of a touchdown pass by Dameon Pierce.
Dell has been a part of Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud’s additional throwing workouts and the Texans’ offseason fitness programme.
How much Dell had improved in the offseason was something Stroud gushed about.
Stroud remarked, “He looks great,” at a news conference on April 15. “He’s improved significantly. Mentally, I believe that for the two of us—actually, for all of the rookies entering year two—everything is beginning to calm down, and your minds aren’t spinning as much. You’re getting the hang of the game. It was huge to be able to throw with him in Los Angeles.
“With the offseason programmes, Tank is back and getting in with our guys here,” Ryans stated. “Well, I’m happy to see Tank back. His passing away last year was a terrible blow to us. He’s such a lively member of our team, and he inspires myself and many others greatly. I’m happy to see Tank back working with our people and to watch him achieve the same success I mentioned in year one to year two.
Tank Dell Updated by Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans
Tank Dell has returned to the Houston Texans’ training complex since the incident on April 27 in order to meet with members of the team, including head coach DeMeco Ryans and club owner Steve McNair.
According to KPRC, Dell is recovering swiftly and should be fully recovered before training camp in July. This spring, he should be cleared to resume physical activities, but his rehabilitation must occur first.
During the team’s yearly charity golf tournament on May 6, McNair stated, “It appears that Tank will recover completely.” The last time we saw him at work, he appeared well and cheerful. However, he needs to recover and return to his previous state.
In response to a question about whether Dell should be prepared for Week 1, Ryans stated, “Tank should be fine.” He revealed that he had had “good conversations” with Dell on multiple occasions after the shooting.
