As Liverpool approaches the final two games of the Premier League season, the 2023–24 season is all but done. On Monday night, Jürgen Klopp’s team will take on Aston Villa at Villa Park for the penultimate encounter.
Liverpool, who were hoping for a historic quadruple to send the German off in style, will have to watch the Premier League championship fight, the FA Cup final, and the Europa League final from home. But it did win the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, and it has at least guaranteed a spot in the Champions League the next year.
Next week, after the season’s last match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the focus at Anfield will shift to a new era as the club gets ready for the impending arrival of Arne Slot. Although the 45-year-old’s succession to Klopp has not been officially announced by the club, it seems probable at this stage.
Prime4sport scans the Premier League and the continent in advance of the current season’s conclusion and an exciting summer of possible additions, both in the dugout and the squad, to find out what’s happening at the Reds’ competitors. First, we’ll go to Manchester United.
“Set to sack” Erik ten Hag from Man United
Erik ten Hag is set to be fired as Manchester United’s manager, according to Football Insider. The 4-0 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night has only added to the mounting pressure on the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
The source continued by saying that Ten Hag will probably still be fired at the end of the season, even if he wins the second title of his rule at the club. The Red Devils still have the FA Cup final to prepare for. Since acquiring a stake in the team, new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been making plans for his exit and has done his research on potential successors.
United, which is presently in ninth position in the Premier League, was eliminated from the Champions League earlier this season after placing last in Group A. After leading Bayern Munich to victory in that group, Manchester United is now considering Thomas Tuchel, the Bavarian team’s current manager, as their future manager.
According to Prime4sport, Ten Hag’s employment is in jeopardy because United has performed poorly this season. The team is starting a new chapter, much like Liverpool, and it will be interesting to watch how both play in the upcoming campaign.
But unlike Liverpool, Manchester United does not currently have a front-runner to take the helm. Despite his past, Tuchel seems like a somewhat safe choice for the position, therefore it wouldn’t be a very long-term one. In the interim, rumours about Gareth Southgate are circulating. To put it gently, it would be risky to appoint someone whose last club position was with Middlesbrough in 2009.
‘Agreement’ is reached by Newcastle United for defender
Reports state that Newcastle United and Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly have come to a “agreement.” After the season, the 25-year-old is scheduled to depart the Vitality Stadium and appears to be headed north.
Kelly has ‘agreed’ terms with the Magpies prior to the free move, according to Foot Mercato, and his contract is scheduled to expire this season. Eddie Howe, the current Newcastle manager, is excited to welcome him to St James’ Park because he spent time with him at Bournemouth. Kelly has the ability to play both left and centre back.
According to Prime4sport, Kelly has been linked to a move to Liverpool in the past as the team looks to add a flexible left-footer to the defence to provide balance. Should he decide to move to Newcastle, the Reds will probably look at other options, such Willian Pacho of Eintracht Frankfurt.
