Dak Prescott: Despite the difficulties, I Don’t Feel Like I Have to Be “Superman” for the Cowboys

Dak Prescott, who is trying to lead the Dallas Cowboys to victory after many injuries to the team’s defense, isn’t putting too much pressure on himself.

As ESPN’s Todd Archer reported, Prescott stated, “I don’t break the huddle and say, ‘I’ve got to go be Superman here.'”

However, I’ve managed to break a few tackles. I’ve been able to make throws, use my feet more, and do certain things that have benefited others. Therefore, I don’t think I need to do anything outside of my game.”

In their last three games, the Cowboys have suffered two losses.

They’ll be missing star pass-rusher Micah Parsons on Sunday due to a high-ankle sprain, via Archer. Due to a foot ailment, defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence was also placed on injured reserve.

Dallas’ defense has been hindered by injuries, but the team’s offensive problems have also been a major factor in their poor start.

The Cowboys began the 2024 season ranked No. 11, having finished with the greatest scoring offense in the league in 2023. They have only scored 21.3 points per game on average across their last three outings.

In 2024, Prescott has thrown for 1,072 yards and six touchdowns on 64.4 percent of his passes, with two interceptions. He’s become better as the season has gone on; in Dallas’ victory over the New York Giants in Week 4, he recorded a season-high 125.5 passer rating.

On September 8, the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback inked a hefty contract extension worth $240 million for four years. According to Spotrac, the agreement made him the new highest-paid NFL player in terms of average yearly salary.

Prescott stated unequivocally that he will not allow his deal to change how he plays the game.

“I don’t think it has as much to do with the franchise [quarterback] or the contract as it is who I am and what I’m capable of doing,” Prescott said through Archer. In my opinion, it all comes down to giving it your all and getting ready to go out there and do it. And whether there is a contract or not, those are the standards and expectations I have for myself.”

The 31-year-old will aim to lead the Cowboys to their third win of the season against a Pittsburgh Steelers secondary that possesses the ninth-best pass defense in the NFL.
