Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman is allegedly mulling another first-round stunner

The NFL Draft is approaching, and Howie Roseman is quite busy. There should be no surprise.

As the hour approaches, every notification on our cellular devices causes us to pause whatever we are doing at the moment. We completed it! The 2024 NFL Draft begins this week, and the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to make the 22nd overall pick. But hold your horses.

There are rumblings of another selection meeting, which is slated for April 25th through April 27th in Detroit, Michigan. Wouldn’t you recognise it? Philly’s general manager appears to be very busy.

Howie Roseman and the Eagles are reportedly thinking about trading up at the NFL draft.
This shouldn’t surprise anybody. Howie Roseman is one of the most aggressive general managers you can find. He and Nick Sirianni spoke to the press less than a week ago. Nobody anticipated them to be so open about their intentions, but no one should be surprised by what we’re hearing as we enter draft week.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, good ol’ Howie is considering a trade that would allow Philadelphia to move up the selection board. This one is behind a paywall on ESPN Plus, so we won’t publish any comments, but Schefty does add that, according to sources, Roseman has already started contacting around to see what a transfer may look like.

He also describes Howie’s aggressiveness in the NFL Draft as “a near-annual tradition” and points out that “It’s also worth noting Roseman, who has been Philly’s GM since 2010, has never drafted a corner, tight end, running back, or safety in Round 1.”

This may be something worth looking into, and while you’re at it, here’s some recommended reading. In the most recent edition of Reuben Frank’s insights, he provides a wonderful explanation of Howie’s previous draft-day movements and how those moves may indicate what he’s thinking this week.

Though no draft is an exact science, there are numerous fascinating players to note who will not make it past the first part of Round 1 selections. Many of them play defensively.

Philly could use more help at every level, especially at the EDGE, cornerback, and safety spots.
