It is said that the Patriots have followed the Rooney Rule. That’s good news if it’s true, because leaders from other teams are turning down the chance to interview for the open G.M. job in New England.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com, the Patriots want to talk to Terrance Grey, who is the head of player personnel for the Bills, about the job. “Politely declined,” Grey said.
If the Patriots haven’t already followed the Rooney Rule (they haven’t said who they talked to about it), they’ll have a problem at some point. Many people think that Eliot Wolf will get the job, which could be making some candidates decide not to go to the interview.
Interviewing is still a good idea, even if Wolf is the best pick. It might help you get better at jobs in the future.
At least three applicants have said no for some reason. Most around the league are simply waiting for Wolf to be named as the man in charge of New England’s football operations.
Terrence Grey, the director of player personnel for the Bills, graciously declined to speak with the Patriots. Although the Patriots may find this decision upsetting, it does demonstrate Gray’s dedication to his current position with the Bills and his regard for the team he now works for. Gray’s choice most likely reflects his commitment to the objectives of his present team and his conviction that staying in his current role will allow him to best contribute to their achievement. It also demonstrates the fierce competition in the NFL, where club devotion frequently takes precedence over individual career goals.
