Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) will debut in 2025, but with significant revisions to the arena structure following an unfortunate event that postponed its inaugural season.
TGL was supposed to debut in January, however building of the arena, which will be known as SoFi Center, in Palm Beach Gardens was suspended soon before completion after the massive dome that was supposed to house the league was ripped apart in a storm, with a power outage causing the structure to collapse.
TGL’s initial season had to be canceled as a result, but TMRW Sports – Woods and McIlroy’s company behind the concept – has confirmed that the league will premiere on January 7, 2025, with a massive marketing push from ESPN during the NFL and college football playoffs.
However, the dome proposal has been ditched in favor of a steel-supported structure at Palm Beach State College, and work will begin soon after receiving approval from the school’s board of trustees earlier this month. New artist impressions of the SoFi Center, which will accommodate 1,500 fans, have been unveiled.
TMRW Sports CEO Mike McCarley stated: “As we prepare for the 2025 debut of TGL sponsored by SoFi, we have the first three Tuesdays in January circled to educate sports fans to this new type of team golf.
“January is an excellent time of year for fans searching for primetime sports, and TGL’s launch will complement the start of the PGA TOUR season while also leveraging ESPN’s advertising machine across their coverage of the NFL and college football playoffs.
“We’re grateful to our incredible partner SoFi, who shares our ambition of using technology to build innovative approaches within traditional institutions. As development on SoFi Center continues, we’re excited to expose sports fans to TGL as we prepare for the league’s debut in January.”
TGL will include six teams representing different cities in the United States, each with four players. The players will battle on a 97-yard playing area, shooting lengthier shots into a 3,000-square-foot simulator screen. Shorter shots will be taken from a dynamic short-game section with a motorised floor that changes the green’s topography.
McIlroy will play for Boston Common Golf Club, which is owned by Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group, while Woods is a co-owner and captain at Jupiter Links Golf Club.
Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, and Xander Schauffele are among the other players participating. However, new LIV Golf members Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have left spaces on the roster after leaving the PGA Tour to join the breakaway league.
TGL is designed for television and will contain a 40-second shot clock to keep the action moving. There will also be a referee, and all players will wear microphones during the broadcast.
